· Essay Questions:

1. Discuss the view that the Spanish-American War marked the emergence of the United States as a world power.

2. ‘Gradually and rather reluctantly, the United States became an imperial power and a military presence on a global scale.’ Is this a fair assessment of American foreign policy, 1890-1901?
